Bi Updates

Here are my "Bi Updates"
New Word = "Bi Updates"
Since getting my trusty KHS bike, I've pimped it up a little. Well, upgrading your bike is fun, as you have something to look forward to.

1st buy, of course safety is utmost important, I got a helmet right away. It is a SARS helmet (sounds familiar doesn't it?).

2nd Due to my relatively small bicycle frame, a 52inch one, I find it hard to pedal as my leg would arch too much, thus affecting my hill climb kung fu (had to meditate extra long to conquer a 1km hill). Thus came along the bontrager raceXlite carbon seat post, FUYOOOH!!!!! Yeah, Improved a lot since then.
3rd, a cyclometer was impossible to live without (though I actually managed to live without it for 2 months), thus the cateye STRADA got engraved at my stem. Not bad right? hit 530km in 2 months time. A cyclometer is for me to pace myself, and encourage myself to go further (although most of the time its pretty discouraging). Yeah, it helps measure, distance, total distance, time elapse, average speed, maximum speed, and it shows you the current time.
4th, New handlebars! Top is my old one, bottom is my new one.......... Helped reduce overall bicycle weight and increase comfort. The new one is almost 2 inches wider, suites my big body frame better!
Ahh, thanks to uncle mike, I've been introduced to CLIPLESSNESS!!!! Of course suffered a few minor falls, and 1 major one, but its terribly worth it!
And of course the cliplessness shoes hehehe that's my 5th and 6th item
7th NEW WHEELS!!!!!
nice or not??? that's the old one la

Below is the new one!!! its a Mavic Aksium I posted about here. That's the rear wheel;
followed by the front wheel (just for your information ya)
That's all, I've pimped my bike to the fullest in a short time, so for the next couple of months, my aim is to rake up at least a millenia of KMs

Jus

New Word = 6 packs

I've promised Jus to post about him. So here goes:

To start off, Jus is a great cyclist, who loves to challenge those cool guys on racer with his trusty kona koni mountain bike, well yeah, he's great on the slopes but a racer still rocks ok?
He strikes a great pose!.... But one thing that puzzles me is, how he likes to "Dream" while posing. So I made some research and finally realize what it is.
Yeah, he's dreaming about the 6 packs that's pretty elusive. COME ON! YOU THINK IT IS EASY TO GET 6 TUMMY IS IT???
I would say he's getting there, from my calculations, he has 2 tummies now. What say you?

PSSSST: notice his dreaming look? hehehehe

HORROR!!!!

IT WAS HORRIBLE!!!!

Purchased my not so new wheels today, it is a mavic aksium. The seller is called Mr. Ng who stays in Putramas1 off Jalan Kuching. With me was my dear, Anne leong, and Jus.

Things were fine, we had a smooth ride, went to putramas 1, waited for Ng, got to inspect the wheels and then....

Aiks

I've just created "My Dictionary". No explaination needed....

New Word = "FRIDAY"
Well it is lunch time at work now, I've just finished my lunch, some siew yuk and veggie. To be frank, quite bored today, nothing much to do. That's what happens when you have finally solved all your bugs! GRRRRRRRR.....

That's how I look now..."young", as in I look young hehe.

Okay, lets recap what happened on Wednesday night. As portrayed by a previous post, I took emergency leave due to lack of sleep and pure tiredness. Played maple story for an hour of so and managed to level up to level 27 now. 8.00pm, arrived at Anne's place, took my bicycle, changed and left.

This was a relatively short trip, to summit, bukit jalil golf & country club, and then back. Personals involved, Uncle vincent, Johnathan, Johann, Daniel and me. Distance covered, less than 25km.

My front wheel is giving me real problems now, the vibration, the buzzing sound, I'm suspecting a cracked hub. Well guess the Mavic Aksium wheelset I've been craving for might arrive earlier than expected.

Arrgh feel like taking another EL for the day, but then again, why waste leave just because you're lazy? But then again, I am lazy today......ITS FRIDAY!!!!! You know, Friday? As explained by my newly created "My Dictionary".

Btw, Mun Yau came in to my cubicle, happy to show me his new work, As I present to you, "Melvin Lai Presents".

Oh yeah you have to click on the link to view "Melvin Lai Presents".

Break THROUGH!

Whoa call me silly, but I've just found out that one can extract data from Excel through ODBC!

Gosh this really helps the company when clients are complaining they cannot extract data from Excel.

I've just recently found out that a few of my friends are involved in a heated argument. I can just imagine how they will react when things get out of hand?

Oh boy, when girls fight, I'll definately be the first to....

Hulu Langat

The date is 20th October 2007, a group of us gathered at Justus' house at 7.30am. Personals involved were Uncle, Justus, Daniel, Rachel, Alan and me.
That's justus with the discovery channel baju

Our aim today is to climb the main hill towards Hulu Langat town, and then cycle another 20km or so towards Gabai waterfalls. The total journey would be roughly 50km +++++. We started climbing the hills, as usual, Justus and Daniel (being the lightest amongs us) were one of the better climbers. I had to stop midway to wait for Rachel so that our group will not spread too far.

Waiting for rachel

Took this picture while cycling hehe
Crappy the slopes are LONG!!!!!!! We stopped at the peak to take a break.
At the top of the hill Here you go, uncle smilling at the top of the hill. Oh daniel forgot his cycling shoes, thus a trusty dragonFly will work
Thank God we all managed to cover the slopes and then its all downhill WOOHOO!!!! My personal best was about 65km/h, I know its not the fastest, but not bad considering my dented wheels. (No worries, I'll be fixing them soon).
Where's Alan???
Unfortunately, Alan suffered a punctured tube, so Justus and Daniel to the resque, will post seperately about their tube changing adventure. Uncle, Rachel and I headed first towards Gabai Waterfalls. We went slowly, about 21km/h average, allowing the rest to catchup.
Alan looking satisfied with his tube change

Once again, we were distracted by something.... Well yeah, there goes all the puffing and huffing again. Here's a short clip of the trip towards Gabai. As you can see, the atmosphere is pretty serene.

We finally arrived at our destination after almost two hours of cycling (I think it was shorter).
Here are some shots of the waterfalls..

Here's the group Picture

We headed home after about one hour playing at the waterfalls. Well, my camera went out of battery and so, no more pictures lor.

By the way, the climb uphill going back is way harder!!! I had to make a few short stops to refuel, thank God we all made it in one piece.
Can you please wipe that smile off?? I'm DEAD TIRED!!!

I really enjoyed this trip, it is a personal satisfaction for me, as it is the second attempt on Ulu Langat, well, the first ended in a disaster!

Hoping for more success next time!

Tiring Tiring Tiring

Went for yet another cycling trip. This time we were joined by Rachel, Johnathan, Uncle Vincent, Johann(new friend), Daniel and I. Seriously, we were dead tired after the short trip. It was only a 40km ride but...... TWO NIGHTS IN A ROW OK~!!!!!!

A short memory re-collect on our trip:
  1. Started from Anne's house, cycled to Daniel's house and met him and Rachel there. 8.15pm
  2. Cycled to BHP in OUG and met up with Uncle Vincent, Johnathan, and Johann there. (almost 9 liao)
  3. Cycle through Kesas all the way to Proton showroom in Shah Alam and made a U-turn from there.
  4. Reach OUG.

BTW I ommited the number of times we stopped, quite embarrassing hehe

That was how we look like after the trip. Sorry Johann, should have slowed down. I kind of regret it too.
That's John posing with his new "ROCK" bike. Cool eh?? Yeah he was so insistent that Daniel take a picture of him with his bike. Oh yeah, he was complaining of backache almost the whole trip. Amazing he managed it! hahaha
That's how I look taking a fall, seriously! HAHHAAHAH which I did in summit when I slipped the pedals again! Must be fatigue zapping in quickly due to the 2 days cycling trip.

BTW had to wake up early today and feel like going back to bed. Too bad our office doesn't have a comfortable sofa (lets hope my boss reads this)

Longkang Bummer

You might be wondering;
What is Rachel doing pointing happily at the Longkang???

Well, I'll come to that part later. Had a nice ride last night, started off at 8.30p.m with a short climb up a steep hill near Anne's house (will provide a picture next time), and then another climb up a not so steep but longer hill. It was John's first time on his new racer and he kind of struggle uphill a little, nevertheless, we made it without much hassle, except for the sore back John later complain.

Later on we headed up to Kesas for a seemingly short trip. Our plan was to reach Summit and back which would be about 27km. With Rachel's modified bike and John's new racer, we hit an average of 28-30kmh as John slowed down on slopes.

Things were pretty much alive for this ride, we were shouting and playing a fool when an "uncle" zoomed pass us down slope. That's when we decided to chase after the group of cyclist that was ahead of us.

Of course we cought up with 2 of them and met the rest at Summit. They invited us to join them on their quest to Kota Kemuning, which is about 2km from Proton showroom. Rachel initially doubted her ability, but changed her mind and thus we went along.

Things went fine until we bumped into a malay lady who fell down infront of the Proton showroom. We stopped by to help her out and continued.

The pace was good, and suddenly..............

A burst tire and bengkok rims! That's what we are looking at.....

My Sidi Zeta

I'm now using this pair of SIDI Zeta shoes. Its pretty comfortable, light and hopefully durable, and mostly, cheaper than the higher range of other SIDIs (Obvious right?).

Anyway, I've only done 1 short trip with it, so I shall review about it once my feet is second nature with it.

My pedals and cleats

This is how my pedal looks like, well ok mine is older! hahaha. But nevertheless, good set of pedals and cleats

Clipless

My last post was about night riding, and the best thing about that ride was, it was my first full trip on a clipless! WHOA!! I didn't fall down at all!!!!

I've been trying really hard to get a hang on clipless, maybe I've tried too hard, which resulted in falling down twice, twisting my ankle, taking MC for the twisted ankle, a big scar at my knee, and people thinking I went to hospital for that!

The first big mistake I made was being too cautious, always wanting to slot in the cleats perfectly. After a few experiments and observation, I notice the design on the cleats is to assist your entry, thus you do not have to struggle, just contact, push and CLIP!!!

Of course the next problem occurs if you miss the clip. I've fallen once because of that, was at a slope when I miss the entry and didn't know what to do, so fall lor.....

But this problem was solved when I realize, the heel of the shoe contains a small rubber thingy that I can push against the pedal if I miss, go another revolution, then try and clip again!

Whoa, you might ask, all this hassle for? Well the experience is quite exuberating, you will be able to feel the power of each stroke........

Night Riders

I know, it is 4am now, but...it's a PUBLIC HOLIDAY!!! GOSH!! IT FELT SO LONG SINCE I'VE EXPERIENCE HOLIDAYS!!!! Anyway, a group a friends and I were riding along kesas highway, where we started about 9pm. It was a good fast ride, which if not bogged by my swollen ankle, could have been much faster!

Yet I managed an average 25kmh, not bad rite? haha... Of course uncle Vincent and john couldn't keep up, the are using mountain bikes. After their tour de ulu langat yesterday, I would say, they are rather FIT!!! Especially uncle Vincent!

From right, Johnathan, uncle Vincent, Rachel and I

Seriously, cycling with these bunch are fun, most of all, they are the "I cycle cause I love cycling and don't care what you say" type.

BTW, it was rachel's first time on a racer, and I have to say she did a pretty good job!

Looking forward to Anne joining us on our mini tours, pray I would be able to save enough for a reasonable yet competitive bike.

Oh just to illustrate a little of the difference between uncle vincent's bike and mine;

Mine is lighter, harder to pedal, faster, cooler, more aerodynamic, alot of modifications to make........and so forth

As for uncle vincent's bike,

he went through ulu langat where my bicycle couldn't complete because of a punctured tire.........

Truely first time HORROR

and yeah, after the slip and fall, this time i really fell, and this is BECOZ OF THE CLIPLESS!!!

ALready i miss the chance to show off at ulu langat this week, things fell even lower when i went tumbling down due to my "unableness" to "CLIP" the pedals on! hahaha

Anyway, learn from my mistake liao, and i guess i shouldn't force the clips in, take it slow and steady, and most importantly "STOP WHEN YOUR PEDALS DON'T CLIP!!!"

Well from what i heard, the group today din do really bad! Hope to join them next week tho, but first of all, will be going for a short fast trip on monday morning to get myself adapted to cliplessness! hahaha

BTW, some of my friends ask me if i'm ok after the fall, yeah i am, and i wasn't in hospital for that fall, it was just a client site.

KUDUS to all those who made it today! I should be joining next week tho haha

HORROR!!!

Had my first encounter falling down on clipless....

well the fall wasn't caused by the cliplessness of the clipness, but becoz i lost concentration and braked when my bike was in a middle of a sand puddle.

Fell awkwardly on my left (and i couldn't stop the fall because my clipless was clipped).

Twisted my ankle and bruised my knees, but still managed to climb up a steep hill without problem.

Well now I'm currently in Shah Alam, in a hospital called "DEMC".

SHIT!!!!!!

My first clipless horror

Well, just attached the second hand "LOOK" delta pedals and new "LOOK" delta cleats with a new pair of new "SIDI" zeta 2 shoes.

the very first time i went clipless on both my leg, ended up almost falling down, whacking hard on the wall at the housing area, rear deraileur abit senget but thank God managed to straighten it up again, finally, i think my wheels became abit senget too....SHRUTTSSSSS!!!!

worst thing of all, my new shoes got bruises liao...sob sob.....

NVM!! these setbacks will only make me stronger!!!!!

Messed Up!!!`

Was trying to redesign my blog last night. Everything work really well until i tried to incorporate the posts, that's when trouble loomed.

It seems the box "div" box i created didn't really support the text that is displayed out.

So, lost all my previous template and now have to temporarily use the lousy plan template provided by Google Blogger.

My fastest cycling trip

Went for another cycling trip today, from Anne's house (oug) to shah alam through kesas highway. Actually planed for a leisure ride with rachel and all, but Justus prefer to call this a "Boy's Night".

Alright, just in case you guys are wondering;

"Why Boy's Night???"

Boys night means, cycling fast and hard, it doesn't mean ONLY BOYS ALLOWED!! comprende(or how you spell that word)??

You might ask the next question, why not call it "SPEED NIGHT"??, well its because, none of the girls we know can cycle as fast as Justus yet. I'm thinking Rachel should be the next lol...

Anyway, boys night should include my dear friend Daniel... but it seems he has "other" plans today, so we shall respect that...ALL D BEST DUDE!

It was fun, going at an average speed of about 30kmh, but of coursed we stopped about 3 times as i was running out of air!!!!

The weather was quite nice, cooling, smoke, cooling, droplets of whatever fell on my arm, cool wind, breeze, SMOKE!!!!(cough cough)

Would skip the details on this one, moreover, couldn't take any pictures at all, its NIGHT!!! and my camera phone can't snap good pictures at night!!!!

The only highlight of this trip was, WE WERE FASTER THAN USUAL!!! well Justus was..not me....... and.....

This "IDIOT" who suddenly shouted like a mad dog while i was puffing like a breathless asthmatic child trying to conquer mount everest.

Alright, it was just a short slope, HAPPY???

That's all for now.....planning to redesign my lil blog layout very soon!

Cycling and I

I've started cycling about 3 months now, but not once I've written anything about it here. So lets start;

It all started when my long time old, getting old, and already reaching 30 friend bought a bicycle. Not only he bought 1 but 2 bikes, for his brother too. Because of that, he tempted me to think of cycling again....

....

...

My First Trip
Day : Saturday
Time: night time
Date: forgot but it was the first saturday of the month

The very first time cycling for more than 20km in my life. Stop almost every 8-10km to rest my back that sored so badly i couldn't sleep at night! hahahahahaha

My Second Trip
Day : Saturday
Time: night time
Date: forgot but it was one month after my first ride

The very first time i'm cycling with my own bicycle!! WHOA!! my lovely gf sponsored me a bike (indirectly calling me fat and i have to lose weight). I went for a short trip this time, only about 14km, but it was good enough for "MY FIRST RIDE ON A NEW BIKE THAT ISN'T SO COMFORTABLE AT THE START".

My Next Trip
....... nothing much

My Disastrous Trip
Alright, it was so bad i couldn't remember the day, the time, the date NOTHING. The only thing i remembered was..... cycling nicely, wah already 40km then....sat in a taxi to go home...MALUNYA!!!!

My Other disastrous Trip
This wasn't so bad actually, the only disastrous thing was....

THIS!!!

Yeah eksyen lagi, going downhill at 40kmh ONLY!!! and BANG!! skidded for 500m because MY DARN WEIGHT WAS TOO HEAVY FOR THE BICYCLE'S BRAKES TO MAKAN!!!

Thank God nothing happen.........................

My Other none disastrous Trip
Well since the 2 most "disastrous" outing, I've had some better ones, like the time we went to KLANG from OUG to eat BKT and then BACK on a bicycle.....amazing issin't it???

Well that's all for now.....catchup with all you guys/gals later

BORING!!!!

Muahaha...since working i've not use that word much but....BORING!!!! lol...

have been involved in this really lenghty project (actually its the shortest amongs all my colleague) and have been really really bz of late.....but now, since it is almost over, its BORING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After almost a month stationed in client's place, i'm finally back in office. First person go greet me was "our head of development" who came up to me and said;

"Jacob, got some problem in Folder management, and dashboard......if got time fix it ok?"

well it's not much of a problem actually, just that the folder list was reinvented (by me) and it seems that the old format of displaying folders doesn't work with the folder indexes anymore!!! MUAHAHAHA I FEEL SO PROUD NOW!!!

oh...shit..sorry...must be talking about work again..........

Anyway, will be zooming off to what i hope will be the "FINAL" UAT (user acceptance test) retest meeting.

Praying hard there wont be another retest lol
